  • Baumann 1500 Amphibs!

I was with Joe Birkemeyer from Baumann Floats at Oshkosh....I helped him at his booth at the seaplane base. He introduced their latest product.....BF1500A amphibs. These are TSO'd to 1600# GW and will be certified on Taylorcraft's. J3 Cubs, etc....they weigh 230lbs total with all the rigging....simple mechanical lever raises and lowers the gear using a push-pull cable. These are nice!

Dano, they are nice looking floats. Will be looking forward to hear performance figures.

Joe said they feel just like the straight floats on the water....they are just 33lbs heavier....they are actually still 20lbs lighter than Aqua 1500 straight floats....those are 250lbs.

Sounds great what about the cost, they would be slick if you are not close to a lake.

What is great about this, is about 1 yr ago my father and I where looking at getting his pa16 on amphibs, or his bc12d on amphibs, but both would of required taking the aircraft into Owner maintained, going through the DAR's out here, or getting a lstc from tc. Now it looks like we'll be able to get approved amphibs on one of these machines, with out having to go through the b.s. our selves.

Now all that is left is.... price

If you are at 1280 gross, could you stay light sport with these??

They are going to be approved for a 1280 gross T-Craft, as well as the F19, F21, F22, Model 19.......remember that the 1280 lb gross plane goes to 1351 lbs on floats per the TC. The price is $26,500 for now......but before you gasp...just think that you could actually have an amphibious floatplane for around $40K-$50K....That's not that bad....a new kitfox or highlander will be over $100K...and a legend cub on amphibs is going for $160K. An 85 HP or higher T-Craft really makes a great little floatplane.....amphibs save you having to buy a place on the lake too

As to the light sport thing....your good to 1420lbs gross for Sport Pilot if you are on floats and these qualify.....because as I said you'll be at 1351lbs gross on floats.

These look just like the strait 1500's Joe just put on my F-21, only with wheels.

How are the 1500's working out for you with the 0-235? I'm thinking of changing out to their floats as well because mine are not great.

I have an idea. Buy the amphibs for yourself and I'll buy your straights. Really I'm changing out my floats this winter. I have a brand new set of EDO 1400 offered to me as well at a great price but I think the Bauman is a better performer.

Dano, is Joe getting a set of T-Craft rigged 1500's? Straight floats for straight folks.
