  • Original 1946 safety wire made of brass or steel?

I'm getting my engine compartment all gussied up for Oshkosh judging, and it just occured to me to wonder whether the factory used brass or stainless steel safety wire back in 1946. Anybody know for sure?

For that matter, what about the safety wire on the pitot line rubber tubing?

I see that Aircraft Spruce sells .032 or .041 brass safety wire for $18.50 per one-pound can, versus $7.50 for stainless steel safety wire.

Thanks as always for your help,

.041 brass is the correct wire, even on the Continental
