Brass or copper? I didn't have any brass to make the counter weight that is described in the TSB that came with my new Delrin needle, so I made a weight from copper to the same size. Oops, it weighs as best as I can figure 14 grams instead of the 4 grams. I reduced the size to about 7 grams. How important is this going to be? I haven't soldered it yet so I am safe. If it hadn't of cost so darn much I would go with an old steel one I have. Any suggestions fellow tribe members?

Stay with steel.....it's worth the money. (but that's MY opinion...others may argue...)
I'd guess the weight is pretty critical as it's working on the arm/moment of the float and will affect how much fuel it takes to move the float.

I can't imagine how there could be that much difference in weight between brass and copper. 14 grams is a half an ounce. No way even if it was lead! Hint: a penny weighs about 3 grams.

      Yes, the weight is critical.

If you get stuck, I'll send you a weight for a nominal fee...

OK. Maybe I will try new steel one. Yes I took the copper one down to the small post office and he weighed it on his digital scale and it came in as 1/2 oz. I couldn't believe it. The material was not even as thick as the recommended brass. I am not too wild about soldering on the float anyway. I always shut the fuel off as soon as I stop anyway. So what if it drips a few drops. It will keep the grass down in front of the hangar. Thanks for the input folks.

Our post office has a scale like that, too.

Copper or brass, if it's the right size it won't weigh much more than 4 grams. Brass is 68.5% - 71.5% copper, so even if the balance (mostly zinc) weighed nothing, it would be more than half as heavy as an equivalent piece of copper.

A *copper* penny weighs 3 grams.
