Re: New Member; maybe owner soon

We are all beginners again every time we close the door. It is what makes it such a joy to fly a plane like a Taylorcraft. When we stop learning from every flight and thinking we know everything we need to know to fly one, we are in the short line for the accident statistics (whatever we fly, drive or ride). A good Taylorcraft will constantly prod you to pay attention to what you are doing, but do it like a good friend keeping you safe, not a mean dog trying to sneak up and bite your back side. It is the best of the good, honest, REAL airplanes.

Hank - didn't mean to convey that I ever stopped learning. Far from it. It's the life-long quest to learn the nuances that make up the difference between between competency and mastery. I was precisely competent in a limited set of skills in a basic airplane, nothing more. I look forward to restarting the learning process, once I get the road ahead cleared.

My comment was also not meant to imply you were not an "eternal student", as are all of us who fly Taylorcrafts. When you fly a Taylorcraft, you are never in a position to fall asleep from boredom. It is always too much fun to get sleepy. A Certificate is only a piece of paper that authorizes us to continue learning. With a certificate the plane becomes your teacher, a good instructor teaches you the language the plane speaks.

You are sounding more like us with every post. It's too late. You have the Taylorcraft infection and there is no cure. The only treatment is to own a Taylorcraft. Non-treatment leads to insanity.

So does treatment, but we won't go there.(;f

Oh, great! Last Fall I came down with Marlinitis. Now I have Taylorcraftosis? I'll never be able to get my medical reissued now (assuming I ever want to go back to PP or higher privileges).

Don't worry, Taylorcraftosis is on the pass list with the FAA.
It's a great flight from West VA to Virginia Beach! One of the treatments for the symptoms is a trip to the Military Aviation Museum.
Remember there is no cure! A few are trying an experimental treatment called the "Pietenpol protocol" but it looks like it just causes a whole new disease to me.

I believe that would be known as "ground snifferectomy" Hank!

I am a big believer in asking for forgiveness rather than asking for permission. Maybe it is just my 58 year old perspective, but my black and silver H-D looks just right next to the black and red TC project. Maybe the argument should be the gas savings on the way to the airport. Keep the Goldwing...fly the TC. Doc
