  • Brake Rivet Tool

Where do you get the tool to squeeze the rivets when replacing the brake linings? Anyone have a picture of the tool?

There are a number of options I suppose. I bought one from Aircraft Spruce at Airventure a few years ago. Here's their link:

Deflate the tire for tool clearance and you can leave them on the wheel.

Just be careful when you countersink the rivet holes. It is real easy to go to deep.

I'll second that "careful when you countersink" The lining material is very soft. You can actually countersink easily by hand. I used a brad point drill bit. It makes a nice flat bottom countersink. Turning the drill bit by hand and checking the depth often assures you don't go too deep.

Yes, I'll third that also. I used this Dremel Tool, flat cutter in my drill press with a depth stop which worked fine also.

Yea, I like the idea of doing the countersink in the drill press with a stop set up. I will have to go to the big box store and find one of those drill bits. Thanks for the info and the pictures. I will take some pics of my endeavor and share with all. Of course I will probably have more questions before then. I have never had to replace the linings, so it will be a learning experience. I have Rob Lee's write up, complete with pictures so that will help.
