  • Break the silence...

Just to break the silence....which one do I work on? Having way more fun on the Piet than I should. The Taylorcraft is soooo close. Just need to cover the wings.

    Re: Break the silence...

THAT'S GREAT! I love Piets. A hard decision to work on the Piet or the T.

I got mine to the 95% stage and then sold it.... arrrgghhh!

although mine was a GN-1 variant and not an official Pietenpol.

here's my build log with hundreds of pics for anyone interested

Trust me... once you have one of them flying, you'll rarely have free time left to work on the other one. It will be spent flying.

Get the T wings covered and painted, then finish the Piet. First time something goes wrong with the Piet you can put the wings on the T and get it up too in no time.
OK, you could do it the other way around too. Just get both VERY close and you have a back-up for the little problems that crop up.

Plus, you really need a plane for open and closed cockpit, don't you?

          Mike:
I'm covering wings right now so I'm voting for wings. I decided to go with rib stitching rather than the Martin wire. That took a long time just stitching on the fabric, and the sanding between coats seemed to be a time burner too. But overall covering the wings has been the most satisifying part of the project so far.

On the other hand, the Piet is just beautiful! The varnished woodwork looks great, but I think it's best feature are those wheels. Where'd you get the wheels?

            Bob,

I made them. I made a few sets for others but finally decided the $1.63/hr profit was not prudent use of my time. These wheels have no brakes. All my other sets were made for Tri-Pacer hydraulics and Aeronca mechanicals. Wish to heck I had kept a set of those for myself.
