  • F-19 Original Fabric

Original fabric with a new layer of paint shot on 10 years ago. Some of the 10 year ago paint is flaking off. The original has a few spots that is cracking. Does any body have a web adress I can go to, for the steps to rejuvinate the paint and spray a new top coat of paint on. Thanks for any help you can offer. Wetfly

      Allen,

I don't know the answer off-hand; it would depend on what the factory used and what it was repainted with. If it was repainted with enamel, then you have problems. Anyway, if your fabric is in fact original, I would be giving more serious consideration to recovering it as opposed to rejuvenating it. Assuming the fabric is ceconite, it is probably ok, but after 35 years, I would want to have a very good look at everything. These airplanes were designed and built when cotton fabric was replaced routinely and were never intended to be covered for decades with the lifetime fabric now in use. Of course you would also want to consider the airplane's history, ie level of maintenance over the years, damage, TT and type of use, and how much it has been hangared vs. kept outside. BUT if it were me with original fabric that old, I would really give some serious thought to just doing a recover.
