I am working on freshening up my a65 bc12d . I was wondering about the posibility of finding some c26 champion plugs. I searched a couple of times but havent found much. Is it possible to find some ?

The replacements are M-41e's, the C-26's that are out there are marginal at best unless you find some NOS ones. Tim

I had good luck with Fresno Airparts. Quick service and great price. Usually found on page 3 of T-A-P each month. Send them a money order from post office and they will mail out the same day. N96175

Fresno says they have m41 plugs as do several others but no c26. What I don't know is will m41 plugs fit on the front upper cylinders without the bumps as I don't want to do that to my cowling?

M41E plugs the unshielded plugs will fit inside the cowl no modification required

If you want to use the 41's with shielded cans you will likely have problems due to the short hex at the base. It hides in the recess in the cans. Otherwise they are pretty nice non-resistor plugs.

I don't want to violate any decency rules on the forum, but does anybody have a picture of one of these "cans?"

Seriously-- I've been trying to visualize what an Ercoupe can looks like and what the thread mod for TC is like. Is there a wire that goes from the plug to the can to the harness?

I thought I was going to have to use these cans, so I did the research a few years ago. These pictures were part of my collection.

Thanks, Richard. I appreciate the effort!

Sure don't much like that connection to the plug conductor!! Did standard short, shielded plugs end up working for you?

                    Re: spark plugs

I've been using similar cans on the 12D I have now for at least 200 hours with no trouble from them, including the sideways spring connector. You will hear rumors/concern of sparking to the case and such, but I have never had it happen to me. Maybe if you had a 1/4 inch gap on the sparkplug, chuckle. High voltage always takes the easiest route (usually read as: shortest.)

Main problem is they aren't able to suppress the big RF signal generated by the non-resistor plugs when they fire. They are therefore still noisy.

For radio quiet you need resistor plug + Shield.

Just thought I would warn you, having done the whole bit myself.

                      Josh,

My plane came with the cowl bumps. I researched using the cans so I could remove the bumps, but decided it wasn't worth the hassle.

I use REM37BY plugs under the cowl, they are 5/8" shorter than standard REM40E's . Tim
