  • Bad noise in cockpit

The last few times I've been flying there has been a screeching noise in the cockpit, and I'm not sure what it is. I'm thinking it's maybe the tach, but has anyone had this happen before?

Continuous or "pulsed?" I had a skruk-like intermitten from a magneto. Not a continuous sound.

Were you doing something to scare the passenger?

No pax scaring for me! I like to keep the inside not smelly. It was a continuous noise, not pulsing.

Unhook the tack cable from the engine and try it. If that stops it, try hooking it back up to the engine and disconnecting it from the tack . If you have noise then it is from the cable, if not it is in the tack. Real simple deduction. Marv

I was planning on doing something along those lines, and lubing it, if it was the culprit.

Ha! Now that's funny! I don't care who you are.

Went flying with my father-in-law yesterday and we figured out what it was. It is the windshield or something making a really loud whistling noise.
We put a new windshield on during that last annual.

Check for a gap up top where the windshield and leading edge of the wing root meet. A small slot up there can cause one heck of a whistle, even with a very small slot.
