they leak because the tubes are a steel tube pressed into an aluminium head with no means of sealing (other than a bead in the tube which presses against the inside diameter of the hole it sits in). Differential expansion, vibration etc always causes leaks between the metal-to-metal contact.
The cure:
1. Re-bead the steel tubes periodically using a pushrod tube re-beading tool, and a smidgin of sealing compound. No cylinder removal required, but the rocker covers, rockers and pushrods need to be temporarily removed.
2. Or replace each pushrod tube with a sealed assembly, quite expensive but details can be found in the Aircraft Spruce catalogue.
