  • To trade the ol'girl off or keep her

    Alright guys and gals,

I must be going through ANOTHER mid-life crisis. I have an opportunity to purchase a real clean Citabria 7GCAA. I really like my T-Craft and am trying to figure out why I want to pay twice again as much as my good ol'tcraft. My flights average 1- 2 hours usually more like an hour and are mostly just local low and slow fun. If I had electric start and a little more speed I don't see that changing but I might take up some aerobatics... but hey with the T craft I can fly sport pilot soon. Comments?

    Citabria

That a hard one, I have owned a couple of Citabria'a and they are nice. I have owned three T-crafts also. But we are talking about two different types of flying. Get both and then decide which you prefer.

I now own a Cherokee, which I love and a T-craft which I also love. Both for different reasons.

Hopefully the Sport license will come through. But my guess is that it will not, for a very long time. Hope I am wrong.

Never flown a Citabria, but would like to. Have owned 4 different aircraft, but have loved them all. Most of my flying is the same type that you do - local low and slow with an occasional long cross country tossed in for good measure. Someday, my Tcraft will be up for sale as well. However, I'll probably keep her longer than some of the others - she's just a little more fun to fly.

Greg, what a wonderful question to post to a bunch of Taylorcraft owners, pilots, operators and enthusiasts!

The polite answer is to keep the Taylorcraft. After all, what can a Citabria thingummy-bob do for you that a Taylorcraft can't?

        1. Go slower? Get a parachute.
        2. Go faster? Get a King Air.
        3. Carry more people? See 2. Or get a 747.
        4. Carry more cargo? See 2. and 3.
        5. Do aeros? Get a Taylorcraft clip-wing.
        6. Use less fuel? See 1.
        7. Use more fuel? See 2. Or 3. Or 4.
        8. Land on a shorter strip? See 1.
        9. Jump in and go? Keep your Taylorcraft.
        10. Have great fun flying low-n-slow with your buddy for peanuts per hour? Keep your Taylorcraft.
        11. Drop into the shortest strips to see your friends? Keep your Taylorcraft.
        12. Take your nearest-and-dearest for a little camp-out to a small strip next to a river, in the heart of no man's land, where you can pitch the tent, have a private little barbeque, small bottle of red, a bit of cuddly-huddly in the chill of the evening, under the stars, followed by ---CENSORED---

        13. and still have enough fuel to get you home? Keep your Taylorcraft
        14. and still have change to take her out next weekend? Keep your Taylorcraft.

The Impolite answer is: You lookin' for a divorce or what?

Thanks to those that replied and especially you Rob. All excellent points including the divorce. You gave me the answer I probably wanted or needed to hear.

Thanks, again, OK now I'm out the door for a little general aviation in the T.
