Does anyone know where I can find the original rules for size and placement of the registration numbers (NC numbers) as required in 1946?

    Re: registration numbers

I think they are on the FAA web site faa.gov

At one point they were large numbers then they changed to small 3" numbers, then changed back again. If you have an antique plane you can use the small numbers. Also I believe the older planes had to have them on the wings top on one and bottom on the other. Check the EAA web site.

Wings are 24" tall, 4" thick, as listed in AC43. Tail numbers were on the rudder and 5" tall.

The FAA site has links to the CAR's. It is in CAR 02 dated 5/31/38 specifically 02.30.
