Re: Engine Upgrade for L-2 / Now is there an L-2 Clip Wing STC?

Great job on getting the engine upgrade all squared away. THANKS.

My question is whether there is an STC for a clip wing for the L-2? I haven't ever seen one, or anything on one, so I'm afraid not, but it's worth asking.

I want a two-seat LSA which is aerobatic, and think a clip wing L-2 might be great!

      Thanks for any help!

I agree, John. But.. Oh my.. Getting that one thru the FAA these days would cost a fortune in time and money. Sounds like a fun idea... but not one I am willing to tackle.

Good luck... and thanks for the kudos.

Great work Terry. You must have the patience of Job. I know there are a lot of us L-2 drivers who are looking forward to climbing in and starting up instead of vice versa.

Was there any structural mods to allow this 85 replacement ?

Wood wing L-2 is too heavy to clip wings. The 85 makes a perfect compliment to the airplane. The 85 is what it should have had all along. I don;t think any structural changes were required.

No structural mods as long as you don't get carried away with the weight of the powerplant installation. By analysis, we showed the structural margins are acceptable up to a certain installed weight of engine + starter + accessories + prop. There is a "installed weight" limit. As long as you stick with a lightweight starter, propeller and you'll be OK. And switching from the old Bendix mags to slicks saves some weight too.

A good friend told me right now NO Slicks are avilable. They were bought out recently and have no inventory on the shelf to sell.
