  • Covering my T craft

    Hi everybody,hope everyone had fun at oshkosh 08,could somebody
    tell me,if this is out of line,have a aircraft rebuilder gave me estament,of
    325 hour to do only fabric work,and the new bottom cowl of the engine
    conpartment,put the plane back together,as i will do intence work,inside
    of cock pit,at 55 dollar hour canadian.

    That's pretty darn close to what it takes. Ask him if that includes painting all the metal stuff like boot cowl and wing struts.

      If he is going to paint all of the metal parts, you may want to strip them yourself. Removing the old paint and getting ready for new paint takes a lot of time.

      Remember you may have some suprizes after all of the old fabric is off.

        Thank guy,the major work is done,new front,rear spar are done,left wing,
        fuseledge is clean an painted,before the ad came out,so attatch fitting have
        to be look at,there was no crack before it was done,bought new bottom
        cowl from harry,it just cleanning metal part is left,that why wondering
        if it hour is to high,according to my ame,o ya,that ready for flying.

          I think the hours are low if he is putting it back together. Assembly could easily take 100 hours to get it all back in one airworthy piece. 250-300 hours just for cover and paint is what I would quote for cover only. I have done about 8 Taylorcrafts over the last 15 years and probably parted out 30 or more.

            Thank guy,ragwing,the quote of 325,that everything,fabric,painting,ad
            inspection,cowling,put back into service,i did all cleaning,redid the left wing,
            he was ok with that,so all he going to do is fabric,painting,cowl,have plane
            running,flying,i thing that good time,but he the only one around the area
            right now.He does good work,check with few ame who know Jim,thank you
            guy,for your in put,17 year she been out of service,when i bought her.

              One question you need to ask, is this going to be a fillin job. Some guys have taken on fabric work as a fillin for slow times in the shop. In these cases, it takes years to get your plane back.

                Hi Ray,how your day going,great i hope,the gentle man who doing my
                t-craft,is very busy,he the only one around,since my ame just retired,he
                done 100 of rag wing project,he think it to high on hour,but what do you when your hand are tied,but for time,it be work on as soon as i transport plane down,since i truck driver,i'll put it in 48 ft van,since im concern that rib
                ,fuseage is wide open,don't want any damage cause be wind,than on open
                deck,
