Re: trying to get N44338 to fly straight

Not a suggestion, mandatory. Solve one problem at a time. I love Fond-du-lac, wish i had flown the ship when I was there..... I go to a place in N. Fondy three times a week when I am around there. I love "poorboy" . forget the name , it is behind another eatery.
Yes lossen ailerons up , when in level cruise they should self center when you deflect the wheel.

      Hi Forrest,

Is there an FAA approved or Factory original service manual?

Not one of those hacked up thrown together aglomeration of homemade and real pages of data that I have now. I can't trust what's real and what's made up.

I think mine has an Air Service Caravan label on it but who knows what has been added or removed, its old and the page numbers are duplicated and out of order. Doesn't instill trust and confidence

Where is there a true factory or faa approved manual one can obtain?

I think this was discussed once before but I forgot the answers.

The "service manual" from Univair is best copy. Essco has a good one too! I gave them the originals a long time ago. Univair has added to theirs. There is no "flight manual" of course the ships were built under Car 3a & 4 and operate on "markings and placards" plus the "Operations Limitations" posted in the aircraft.

Re: trying to get N44338 to fly straight

I don't know all of the variables of trying to rig a side-by-side airplane like a BC12. If you fly alone most of the time, I guess you probably would like to rig it hands off with just you in the airplane. In that case you must keep your hand on when traveling with a passenger. Also many aircraft have a single right hand aux tank and I would think it would make a difference whether that tank was full or not.
With the L-2 everyone sits in the middle and both wing tanks are interconnected and feed at the same time so it was a lot easier to rig the airplane for straight coordinated flight. My L-2 flies dead-nuts-on straight and level without the benefit of either aileron or rudder trim tabs. As recommended by many I started with factory spec rigging and made the adjustments using the right aft strut adjustment. I don't know if it makes any difference, but I loosened the jury strut bolts when I made the adjustments and re-tightened them afterwards. When I got the wings level I then adjusted the tailwheel spring to compensate for the yaw. That big Scott 3200 tailwhell makes a pretty big trim tab. Sure enough the moving of one chain link from one side to the other made the airplane fly straight as an arrow. The tailwheel/rudder relationship is often overlooked when rigging an airplane.
