    Re: ?Repair torn rib 'web'?

    Mike:
I disassembled the rib (it's a two part affair, inner and outer ribs held together at the flange) and then clamped it lightly in the vice between two wood blocks while I riveted it. I used an ordinary cheepo rivet gun and a bucking bar that looks like a fat "L".

I probably have $200 in riveting tools (I'm never gonna build a RV). A rivet gun, 3 rivet sets (3/32", 1/8", and flush), 2 retainer springs, bucking bar, cleco pliers, and 8 clecos. I've never used a rivet squeezer (but wished I had one a couple times) and I just buy rivets in the right length rather than try to cut them.

That sounds like a smart way to do it.

Mine is also two halves, held together by rivets. In order put the halves back together, can I use PK screws to hold it together or must the halves be re-riveted? - Mike

Thou shalt do what was there before, or thou shalt purvey a 337 for the change to the original design.

Readest thou the FAA regs and all shall be revealed.

I think Mike needs to get an A&P , then do the three years out in the field and get the IA . Then he will know what it means to put his name on somebodys work that has not read the book..... arguing with "owners" is a losing proposition. The regs are there to try to insure that the next owner will get a ship that is airworthy and "conforms to the type certificate".
          just my thoughts.

Mike does give us food for thought which is good. Heh how about those great speeches the past several days , WE ALL know what needs to be done, NOW , HOW do we do it!!! sort of the same with the FAA.

              Nice repair Mike!
So are you considering this to be sort of an e-mail correspondence course course to get an A&P ticket?

like I told someone else, if you'd search for my name you could probably write a maintenance manual! - MIke
