  • Wheels Tires and Landing gear

Tried posting this in the tech discussion area but got 60 hits and no recomendations. This area gets a LOT more traffic so I'll ask again, does anybody know what the lightest tires allowed for the BC-12 are? Mine need to be replaced and since they seem to rot off before they wear out I don't see much reason to lug extra weight around tht isn't really needed. I had heard that 4 ply tires were originally used. Anybody know where to get a good price on a set?
Come on guys, I'm almost ready to shoot dope on the plane and I KNOW those old rotted sidewalls aren't getting past the IA this time!

    Hi Hank,
Tire ratings are generally a sore spot with these aircraft. If you go back to the TCDS (A696), both the BC12 and BC12D are only approved to have 2 ply tires (Type III, 600-6, 2 Ply) installed and installing 4 ply tires theoretically requires a field approval.

I don't believe that any certified 2 ply rated tires are currently being sold (the sore spot) but could be wrong about that. You can try http://www.desser.com/ and see if they can help you.
