Thought this picture of a student's first solo on 7/29 was kind of neat. The field is at the Old Kingsbury Aerodrome-Kingsbury Tx. If anyone likes WW1 planes it's really a nice place to fly to in South Texas.

Re: First Solo
I agree-grass strips will spoil you. Yesterday he went to the San Marcos Airport and did some landings and didn't like it at all. The Kingsbury Aerodrome field is a private strip and it's best to call ahead-Roger Freeman @830-639-4162 but he doesn't mind for someone to fly in if they call first. He also has fly-ins there and the dates are on his web-site-www.vintageaviation.org. I'm kind-of thinking of a Taylorcraft fly-in either at the San Marcos Airport or Roger's this spring if enough people would be interested. Both the San Marcos Airport Manager and Roger said they would like that. Roger said he will probably have a fly in next May and I am thinking that might be a good time. Humm-may have to bribe Forrest and some others with some Shinner Bock and Pretzels.Last edited by Buell Powell; 08-07-2008, 13:34.Buell Powell TF#476

Re: First Solo
Roger's place is cool and a must to go see if you are in the area. His craftsmanship on WW1 aircraft is some of the best around. Definitely need to call and make sure he is around. He is a busy guy. I have been building all the props Roger uses on his WW1 builds since I bought the prop business almost 10 years ago.

Re: First Solo
Hi Mike,
Sorry, I'm not familiar with the Wiley Post "A" but sounds really interesting. Mark--thats a good idea, there is a little resturant on the San Marcos Airport that I bet we could get to make some Hamburgers or Bar-B-Q.
Roger doesn't have a date yet but said he would have a fly-in in again next May.I didn't get to go to the last one but some friends that did really enjoyed it. He flew a DR.1 they had just finished.a nice original Myers OTW and some other cool old aircraft.Last edited by Buell Powell; 08-08-2008, 19:02.Buell Powell TF#476
