  • exhaust risers

I am looking 2 exhaust risers that go from the hanlon/wilson muffler up to the cylinders. Wagaero and Univair say they no longer have this part. Where can I get them? Also I might as well ask what is considered the best wax for when painted stits fabric is starting to go chalky?

    Hey Ken,
Found those risers and ordered them. Acorn does have them! Don't know why Wagaero says they don't have them when they are in the catalog! Acorn has better quality (and more expensive too).

      FlyKenKen,

When waxing any airplane that is NOT painted with urethane paints, it is advisable to use a wax that does NOT contain silicone. Silicone will make it dificult to 'patch up' your paint job.

Although most wax products contain silicone which makes for a nicer shine, you can call the 1-800 number on the label and ask for sure.

I use 'Mothers' which is a carnuba based wax.

        Re: exhaust risers

I love Carnuba, BUT, remember that the high Carnuba paste waxes will go on a little hard and turn like STONE on the surface. Put a LITTLE wax on a small area then rub it out (only a couple square feet at a time!). If you get ahead of yourself putting it on you will drop from exhaustion trying to get it rubbed out. The other thing about Carnuba is it seems pretty unaffected by soap but is taken right off by detergent. All that work is gone quick if you wash it with detergent. The good thing about that is a strong detergent wash gets the wax off if you need to do a repair. Wax or silicon are death to new paint. An easy wax job will look good with silicon but is a beast to get off for touch up. Put some good HARD WORK in on a Carnuba job and it will look better and last longer than silicon and can be removed with a strong detergent when you need to.

Don't be shocked at the price of high Carnuba wax. It's EXPENSIVE, but WORTH it.
