  • windshield rubber weatherstrip

Where can I find some new weatherstrip? Our Tcraft is the version that has a formed aluminum trim strip that screws to the boot cowl and clamps the windshield and rubber strip in place.

The rubber strip has what looks like a very unique cross section. I haven't seen it anywhere.

Use the regular small thin U-channel, it looks better and is easier to install.

I seem to recall recently seeing someone advertising some NOS Taylorcraft windshield rubber channel for sale -- was it Tom Baker in Illinois?

I used Aircraft Spruce part no. 05-00598 (page 129 in the current catalog.) "Style D" with the J-shaped profile, 1/2" high on the long side, 3/16" high on the short side. Installed upside-down from the catalog drawing, long side in against the windshield, short side wrapped over the top edge of the windshield fairing strip.

I bought several strips of rubber from the factory, They were cheap enough that I was not afraid to get ripped off. Tim

How about the metal strip at the bottom of the windshield to the boot cowl? I need one. Any out there??

The factory has them also, just remember to trim off the corrugated part of the strip, I have seen several aircraft where it was not trimmed off and it rubs the windshield. Tim

I spoke with Lowell (Tom) Baker at Oshkosh -- he had many feet of the authentic profile rubber weatherstripping custom-made. I've heard that Forrest may also have this weatherstripping. Wish I'd known that before my windshield was installed.

As he explained and drew it, it has a round bead that sits atop the aluminum fairing strip, a U-shaped channel that wraps around the bottom edge of the windshield, and then about a half-inch lip that sits atop the glareshield.
