  • Vogel/Trapper Joe fly-in

Hey guys, looks like Dick Smith,Steve Long and myself are sure bets for the fly-in. Six bunks in the cabin for those of us spending Sunday night. Looks like it would best suited for a guys night out but everything is negotiable you know.

Dick and my wife and I had a good time checking out the cabins and lakes on Monday. Beautiful day and very little wind even across Turnagain Arm. Lakes are in good condition with no over- flow. Between Dick and myself and any others we can keep an eye on things between now and then.

We would like more on board so give Dick or I a hollar.

Hey Dick, Nice machine you have there and it was a pleasure to get acquainted.

Thanks for the invitation, but I will not be able to join you. I am still rebuilding my plane, fixing damage from the Mar 03 wind storm. I hope to be flying again in April.

Noon Saturday: Heading for Vogel Lake cabin...some light snow. Tried to get there twice yesterday, made it on second attempt. Low visibility and snow on first try. Sat down on a different lake and waited for better visibility. Planning to stay Sat. and Sun. night, and piddle around on monday, maybe try some icefishing at Trapper Joe Lake. Watch the weather. Vogel Lake Rendezvous

Jim Hartley and Steve Long joined me at Vogel Lake Sat. afternoon. We stayed in the cabin Sat. night and Sunday night, trying a little ice fishing on Monday. Had some great steaks supplied by Jim and fresh salad fixings from Steve. Ate really good...plenty of it. We all hauled in some firewood, in our planes. There is plenty of wood available a short distance away, so we had more than enough. We had a great time getting acquainted and comparing Taylorcraft notes. I won't tell the whole tale...Jim and Steve will fill in more I'm sure. Will be great to get more of the Tribe together soon. Dick

                    Vogel Lakd

The rest of the story is that after our foray at Vogel, Jim Hartley and I couldn't make it home due to low ceilings and a snow storm right over Anchorage. Luckily, Dick lives in the other direction from Vogel and he'd invited us there if we couldn't get home. We flew to his lake and ended up staying two nights before it got clear enough to fly home. Thanks again for you and your wife's great hospitality Dick. We would have been cold waiting at Vogel for the weather to lighten up. I'll try to post some photos I took. We'll have to do it again when we get the floats on. Steve.

WOW says it all what a nice look at how it goes way up North. I am still complaining about the 3-4 inches we get in NE Ohio today. Back to the old grind of running an airport. bye Forrest
