  • Cowling Chafe Seal/tape

I looked at the roll of chafe tape I have from Spruce and it just
looks to wide. ( The standard 1 inch by 15 foot roll )

Looks like 3/4 or 5/8 would look better.

Any ideas, does it come in black?

In any event, how should it be attached?

    I have heard..Staples..Rivets..RTV Cement....??

I use felt weather strip(various widths) & contact glue.

1" is perfect because it takes into account the edge of the boot cowl. I use the cotton cloth from a frabric store and use weldwood contact glue with a 1" brush and put it on heavily.....Tim

You can glue the chafe tape to the inside of the main cowlings themselves, instead of onto the boot cowl/firewall and nose bowl. Not only will this give you the most contact area for the glue, there will be far less wear and tear on the chafe seal too. There is more than enough room for the full one inch width to be glued into the flat cowl parts too, rather than having to trim them to 3/4.

I replaced a couple of sections and had good results with high temp RTV from the auto parts store. This will take more heat than contact cement I believe.
