Re: What Floats Do I use

    Robert,

The rear of my floats are about 1/2" out of the water when the aircraft is full of fuel and nobody in it. I have a field approved O-200 and see about 2450-2500 rpm on the tack. Remember my floats are 12" longer then Dano's and according to Baumann the 12" is all on the rear of the float. I need to have a wire attached across the front of mine so I can cross the floats with out having to climb through the cabin.

I have about 5" sticking out at the rear of mine....it's the same on either of my planes. And my opinion is that the cross cable is a MUST...

        Dano,
when I say the rears are out of the water 3 inches what I mean is the
distance from the water to the bottom of the float. Your rear float bottom is
in the water an inch or so . Before I jump to any conclusions though and say the floats are dfinitely too far back on the aircraft I have to note that our floats differ in design. My floats are shorter than yours in the frontal portion
compared to yours and longer in the rear . My floats could have a higher angle in the stern as well. I will carefully look at all the variables before making too many major changes .

I like the mead floats though. Same weight as yours, fluted bottoms and very slick.
