  • Almost Airborne

    Hey Tribe,

Well, N39203 is almost complete!! Taxi tests today went well and all was uneventful. My A&P however asked about the positioning of the jury struts! I had to plead ignorance. Should they be at 90 degrees to the wing and in line with each other or is there some magic formulae that I need to use to locate them in their proper postions?

    Need advice badly.

    Thanks much
    Best Regards

The jury struts should indeed be 90 degrees to the wing. Each vertical leg of the jury strut should be parallel to the other. A reasonably depicting photo at www.Taylorcraft.org.uk/Brih20.JPG

It's quite easy to get the alignment right, because the mounting points align with the strut clamps. The struts themselves should of course be dead straight, this is adjusted by turning the threaded mounts on the underside of the wing.

Lubricate the AN3 bolts, so that they will not corrode in situ, it makes getting them out next time much easier.

        many thanks

        Forrest, Rob & tribe,

First of all, many thanks for the advise on the jury struts. I am now to the wing root seals. I am not sure how flat and how close of a fit that these gap seals are supposed to have. It appears that in order to get these things flat, I am going to have to use some pk screws on the inside edge. Is that a smart thing to do? Also, the %$**&@# trim got very hard to turn and I can now only get about 5-10% down trim and the trim indicator won't read past neutral!!! The spring is not too tight and the jack screw was well lubbed when I covered the elevator. Any help would be appreciated.

        Thanks again
        Best Regards

Make sure the elevator is in neutral position before trying to turn the trim handle.

On the wing root fairings.. contact the Baker boys (I believe one of them is on this site... they run an upolstery shop in Iowa or Illinois I believe and are big into T Crafts.. Forrest or Bruce Bixler would know to who I am refering right off Any way one of them had what seemed to be a good suggestion on doing them in two pieces to accomodate the difference between the wing/fuslage height at the rear of the wing where it butts to the fuselage. I used to own 94984 which was(hopefully still is) a show piece but this was one area where it could have been a better fit to say the least. He offered this suggestion when I had the plane at Sun n Fun in 2000 and had gotten a lot of press but he was offering suggestions to further refine the plane in this area. If you look at most T Crafts the fit here is typically not very good. I wish I could remember exactly what he said to do but I am sure you willl be able to track him down and get it straight.
