  • Wag Aero Strut Installation

Just received latest modified strut clamps from W.A. and did first fit up of the jury struts. When I started lining things up from the front clamp I thought I had a real problem. The thicker strut makes it initially appear that you have to swing the jury strut to one side at an angle to allow alignment with the top screw. That throws the rear alignment WAY off to one side. It really looked like it would never line up.
Surprise. Just kept tweaking and with the right screw positions everything moved right into place. Set it up for a straight line down the front strut leading edge and no loads/pressure on the fittings and bolts. Jury strut dead on vertical.
What a design. Mr. Taylor really did a good job on those parts. Just amazing.
This afternoon, same result with the other side, much faster on the second one.
All new bolts should arrive tomorrow.
Should be down hill from here, tweaking and making pretty, paperwork.

    Re: Wag Aero Strut Installation

    Darryl,
I sent you a PM about how my struts fit but wanted to let the rest of the tribe know the Wag Aero struts fit perfectly and were an easy replacement. The rear are the same size as my original pre wars and the front are so close in size that even the strut cuffs fit without any adjustment-

How do the Wag Aero struts compare in price to the Univair?

I would really like to re-use my cuffs without messing with them.

        John,
The Wag Aero struts are about 140.00 per set more. I have a pre-war and the Wag Aero struts are closest(especially the rear)-the fronts are smaller on major axis but larger in minor axis and close to the same in total area so the cuffs fit without adjustment. but you might want to check your measurments because they are larger for a post war and Univair may be closer to what you have.
        Hope this helps

          Re: Wag Aero Strut Installation

Just this afternoon, I got new Wag Aero front struts bolted on my B model. I agree with what Buell says about them fitting perfectly on a pre-war Tcraft. Wag Aero was an easy choice for me, being about 30 minutes away (no shipping). Tom Oneil at Wag has always been helpful.

            Re: Wag Aero Strut Installation

We did notice one goof on the Wag paperwork today. The FAA replacement part certification letter shows the MFGR's part number and the shipping document/invoice from Wag has Wag's part number. Fortunately the strut has the MFGR's P/N on it. Think they need to fix their invoices.
All back together and signed off--get back in the air in the morning. Been a while.
