  • I broke it J.B.

    Jury strut adjusting screw.

If and when I ever get the broken shank out I am going to need a new one. I could rebuild the one I have, but it would be easier to just replace it. (Jigging for welding is going to be a bear, I think).

Anyone have a jury strut adjusting screw assembly they are willing to part with. Listed as A-A819 by factory. Haven't confirmed on my parts list.

Also any creative suggestions for removing the broken-off shank. I am trying the usual stuff, no luck late yesterday. It is rapidly approaching being a disaster. That threaded section is really THIN.

If it broke flush or near flush....arc weld a nut (any nut) on and back it out. The heat from welding will help loosen the stuck stud.

      Thanks mike.

Got it out. Drilled it about 1/4 inch with a 3/8" bit and the tapered extractor seated better (more area) came loose when I started to back the exractor out (screw going in), so I wiggled it a bit and it screwed right out. Clean, no damage.

I either have to weld on a new threaded section-rebuilding the old one, or find the part.

Wheew--after that, the remainder of the day has to be positive, regardless of what happens.

Slightly too thin, IMHO. One of mine did the same, so like Andy Duke I had a new threaded piece turned & welded in to the original folded bracket, which was machined out to accept it. My new threaded tube was a few thou thicker wall thickness than the original.

Incidentally, this is the third thread in recent weeks on the Jury strut fitting...methinks some inventive manufacturer aught to get PMA for new ones?

I could bring that up with Tom over at Wag Aero. They might be interested. It would be nice with a thicker tube and lighter TIG welding on the base.
