    Tim,
I don't know the best answer to your questions, but you are welcome to drop by here in Bulverde and poke around on my F-19 project if that would be of any help.
    Best Regards,

      Tim,
No model change...it makes it the EQUIVELANT of a 19. STC's are a very specific set of instructions.... you have to do things the way they are approved by the STC, or the STC is totally void (without some FAA approved documents stating a variance).
You'll still have a BC12-D when you're done, so as long as there's no apparent conflict between STC's you're fine.

Not without a field approval. I doubt you're going to get the field approval on the engine, but I've learned never to say never. Don't just throw up your hands on field approvals.. they can be and are done every day.... some of the ones you hear of that are refused are waaaaaaay out there. Go to fsims.faa.gov and download order 8900.1 volume 4, section 1 of chapter 9... this along with AC 120-77 appendix 1 and maybe AC 43-210. These should give you the guidelines that the FAA inspectors have to follow to do field approvals. (that's what I have in my notes from the other weekend's IA renewall seminar...haven't gotten them downloaded yet) If it can be done within all of these guidelines, you have a chance. If not, you don't. The other thing to remember, is that the inspector is laying his career on the line when he signs that field approval...put yourself in his shoes. Follow these guidelines and have all your ducks in a row, then present this to a mechanic and have him present it to his pmi. It sounds like a long drawn out process, but it can be done, if the mechanic and inspector have a good relationship. Now, before I get a bunch of flames on this... it's all going to depend on the FAA and what their inspector tells them....it can and has been done, but it is an OPTION to the inspector and office.

            Re: Engine upgrade

            --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've been looking with interest at the posts regarding upgrading the engine to an O-200 and wanted to share some information that might be of assistance. I am buying a Model 19 conversion that has an O-200 w/ electrics that's been installed under a separate field approval. The Model 19 STC was accomplished first. The simple way that they got this one approved was to use the motor mount and exhaust system from an F-19. Also required was to placard the nose tank as being only 9 gallons usable rather than the 12 that it actually holds. I was told that the reason for this limitation is that w/ the increased horsepower high enough deck angles are possible during climb to cause fuel starvation when operating w/ less than 3 gallons in the tank, hence the 9 gallon limit. The F-19 is placarded in the same way. I also have a Field Approval to use the C-150 exhaust system on the O-200 conversion. This mod gives MUCH better cabin and carb heat than the rather poorly thought out TCraft exhaust system as well as allowing exhaust maintenance without being required to remove the engine or loosen the mount. I'm pretty certain that I've seen this one installed on quite a few 85hp Tcrafts as well. I wouldn't think of going to the trouble of getting the O-200 approved without using the 150 exhaust. It's a really good change to have, especially if you live in colder climates. I know that some of you purist types will cringe at the thought of all of these mods but the improvement in utility that they allow is far more important to me than remaining true to the the stock Tcraft.
This plane has quite a few mods and I'd be happy to share copies of 337's if any of you feel that the previously approved documentation might make your modifications go over easier w/ the Feds. It may muddy the waters a bit since my plane has been converted to the MOdel 19 and is not a stock BC12D. If you were not trying to change any weight limitations the modified status of my plane might not be a factor in allowing you to use my "previously approved data." I have paperwork for 8.50x6.00 tires, 26" Good Year Tundra Tires, Edo 1320's on the Model 19, and other stuff too. I'm interested in changing to straight axles and hydraulic brakes so any advice on that subject would be greatly appreciated. Goodbye from chilly Alaska!

really i just whant some thing like what he has

i sent him a pm about any and all 337s that he has

and if i cant well ill just get an a&p job up in AK and build her up there

              Tim,
I've gotten the 150 style exhaust field approved before (Richard Boyer's plane) and it's excellent! I'd grab any of the info that Roger's willing to share, but remember...that's acceptable data...not approved for your installation. It may or may not help you. I seriously doubt it would hurt though. The main thing to remember is to communicate with the inspector and have a good game plan drawn out when you present this. That goes a long ways with them. Also, whatever you do, don't start cutting/welding before you have the signed approval in hand...that's a good way to waste time and money.
I'd love to go to straight axels too, as would many others... my suggestion would be for you to try to get a multiple STC for that... I'd be in line to buy one!

A few years ago I was at the tcraft fly-in in Alliance and we made a copy of all my STC's and 337s. I think Forest has them somewhere up there......
