Hi all for all interested the B&C light wt alternator has been approved vai a STC for older Cont powered planes.

Sorry I thought the link would take you to the AD, it can be found under the Antique-Classic pages right now on the first page about half way down, they don't list the STC # but you can e mail them from the ad.

I have a wind generator from Basic Aircraft. It works really well and is reasonably priced. See the link below. They do stand by their products.

Any idea how much cruise you lost with it hanging out there in the wind? Larry

Haven't seen much at all. I was surprised. 5mph if that. My brother the IA tells me that is because there is so much natural turbulence down there between the wheels and landing gear. The trade off between a bit less speed and safety has been worth it for me, though. I do a lot of cross country flying and arriving home down here in southern CA with a dead radio battery can be a royal pain for everyone.

I have the old 1940's wind generator on my 41 and what surprised me was that you could actually FEEL it when you threw the master switch. The prop spun all the time, but when you started to pull power you could actually feel the planes speed change. It wasn't a lot, but there was a feel like someone "tapped the brakes". Mine is mounted on the belly between the gear legs.

THAT might make it easier for some to avoid the "float down the runway forever" problem if they come a little too hot. Just flare, pull power, and the added drag helps to slow the plane to touchdown speed. Brie
