  • Standing Lenticular

The Hanford weather satellite for California shows what I take to be a massive standing lenticular clould walking it's way down the the Sierra Mountains. It is is about even with Fresno and appears to be about 50-75 miles wide. The leading edge is over the foothills and the cloud itself extends hundreds of miles into Nevada.
Wind just came up here on the West edge of the valley and is blowing like crazy.
Wish the T was flyable. Anyone under the leading edge of that is going UP I would bet. Probably way up.
Never seen anything like that in a satellite photo.

It is starting to break up now. Was a straight line (with the ragged edges) right down the foothills before. Wind here now is gusting 32 statute. Sorry I didn't think to save the image when it was really impressive.

          Re: Standing Lenticular

Deleted--silly me, I thought it would maintain the same -4 hour photo that was up

Here is a small version--back 4 hours. Still looking for a larger version, like the original site, want to save a copy.

            Daryl,
The weather guy said a strong wind for today but when I woke up it was calm as could be.
When I went out to my truck it was calm as could be.
By the time I had drove past three houses the wind was blowing trees around pretty good and in 5 minutes it was up to 35 mph.
Never seen such a sharp distinction between calm then wind here before.

Sorry to burst anyone's bubble, that does not look like a Lennie cloud to me.

Bubble intact. I could have called it a standing rectangular, but then no one would have known what I was talking about. Looked like a cloud formed with a thin well-defined edge where the wind was just starting up over the hills. Backside just never disappeared. Call it whatever you like.

I have to seriously try those things one of these days in the 12D. Certain times of the year they row up by the dozens over the coastal hills here. Don't know if there is lift I could use in those particular types would be fun to go hunting someday. Having oxygen ready would be nice I guess.
