  • wheel bearings

Does anyone have wheel bearing numbers logged in their head for the L birds.
My inner bearings are to deep and are not allowing the spacer to fit into its reccess in the wheel.
Also, did the felt on the dust seals fit just the size of the cup?Any dimensions for cutting new felt would be appreciated.
Dick Huish my phone took a dive awhile back and your number disappeared so I can't get ahold of you.
    Thanks guys!
A Timkin number for the bearings or Fafner if anyone knows them!
I currently have Timkins ..08125 inner andA6075 for outer ,all on a shinn 6c wheel

    Re: wheel bearings

I know that you're looking for L model information. But since I have wheel bearings for my BC-12D right here, I thought that I'd post it. Perhaps it might help.
My inner is Timken 08125 and the outer is Timken A6075.

I see that is the same that you have. Perhaps they should be different and you have BC-12 bearings.

      thanks for writing Tim.
      Are you a tapered axle?
I think the final model numbers for mine are 4HC or 4H8 ,I can't tell as the last character on the stamping on both wheels is not real neat.Shinn wheels are all new to me.

What spacer are you talking about? The one between the wheel halves? There should be no other spacer.

          Re: wheel bearings

it is between the anchor plate and the inner bearing...the army schematic calls it a spacer but it seems to be more in line with a thrust washer type of application

Yes, the axle on my '46 BD-12D is tapered.
The Timken Boxes that the bearings came in don't have any extra numbers after the part numbers described above (A6075 and 08125)

Also let me mention, not for tawadc95, but just for general knowledge (I'll probably need to search for this information in the future), that the boxes for the outer races say A6162 and 08231 for the outer and inner bearings respectively.

My wheels do have a very thin washer between the inner bearing and the stationary base plate.

              Re: wheel bearings

All there should be is a wide area thin washer to cover up the screw heads for the brake backing plate. It is no more than .040 thick. Should not cause any fitment issues.
