  • aluminum fuselage tank repair

I'm trying to recoup some of my annual costs so I decided to take a look at the old tank that I needed to replace. Took a closer look at it tonight. I'd like to repair it and sell it.

Come to find out it is an aluminum tank. I thought it was terneplate.

The bung where the shut off valve screws into it cracked (see photo)

am I correct in assuming I can cut this bung out carefully and then have someone who can work with aluminum weld on a new 3/8" NPT aluminum bung like this one?

Yes, that's exactly what we did to all our tanks on rebuild. We also reinforced the local area with increased thickness of base material to resist twist-out forces.

Make sure that you match or exceed the NPT size of the original design to assure proper fuel flow.

I'm in the market for this tank if you haven't sold it already?
