Re: Big Wheels Keep on Turnin'

Should be pretty easy to connect up to water (hose?) and run a slow stream thru while flexing to see of there is a change in the flow rate. Just a thought--never tried it. Probably wouldn't hurt to put on a new one once in a while, anyway.

Beware the law of unintended consequences! I know it doesn't seem to make any sense, but you changed some stuff and then had a problem. First (OK, maybe not first in this case) thing I'd do is un-do the last thing you did before the problem appeared. (You'e already done all the things I'd do first...)

Re: Big Wheels Keep on Turnin'

Today I took my Stromberg carburetor in to the fellow who overhauled it. I watched while he took it apart, there was no damage and no malfunctioning parts and no stains and no missing pieces. No debris. The float moved freely. Fuel gushed when fuel was supposed to gush. The mixture control worked. Screen was clear.

Using a wall-mounted fuel can and the correct length of tube connected to the carburetor inlet, he checked the float level at within a pencil width of the correct 13/32". I looked into the bowl and saw a gleaming steel needle and a naval brass seat. Out came the safety wire, and back together it went.

The carburetor is not the problem.

Will post a related question in a new thread in hopes of replies from experienced folks.

That should be a relief, you know you have fuel sometimes. If your tank is empty take a flashlight and look into the bottom of the tank to see if there might be something like the remains of a fuel cap gasket that might block the fuel outlet. Don't use a match for light!
I had that happen the first month that I bought my T-Craft.

            Bill,
You might have a cracked intake spider. A cracked intake makes the most sence. When it gets warmed up the crack will open allowing too much air into the fuel mix thus causing it to lean, also on a rare occasion causing it to quit! You had this probblem before and you said then that the carb didn't look bad but seemed to fix the problem,it was after that when you started fussing about the CHT's. A cracked or bad carb venturi could also cause the same problem/symtoms with no way to be sure unless you have a flow bench and computer sensing to detect a leak or crack so small(same could apply to the intake). Think about it.....it makes sense. Once the airplane has cooled a minute or two it starts as runs fine.

PS. another week smoke free! I didn't even smoke during the Daytona 500,and I got pretty tippsy too!!!!! It really don't bother me not to smoke but it really sucks after a few beers because it's then when you really want to smoke the worst.

Congratulations on behalf of your kids.

If we ever meet face to face I'll buy you a steak dinner of you are still off the cancer sticks.

Remember the movie "30 Seconds Over Tokyo"? In this 1942 or 44 movie, Van Johnson refers to a pack of cigarettes as "coffin nails".

Kevin , I never mentioned when you were in Alliance, but smoking and working on airplanes do not mix. PLUS all those other things about your health. Atta boy keep it up...
