  • landing gear bumper AKA bungee bumper

I was in the hardware store today looking for shims and bolts to use to make some changes to my Aeronca landing gear bushing boring jig.

While looking around I passed by this and was rather impressed.

The cross section looks just like that of the last new set that I bought back in '82 from Ferris Taylorcraft. Well what I mean is if I split this one right down the middle it would be the same.

The model they call "AXE EYE HS-3" is the one that caught my eye.

I plan to save this one and someday cut it in half and make two bumpers from it.

    Only 4 bucks retail!

Pictures show details of the item and info to contact manufacturer.

Figured some of you may be interested and there are other sources too.

I am thinking of buying a bunch and including with the bungee tools and maybe can get a even better price.

    Hope this helps somebody.

    Dave

I just ordered a pair of HS4, but I see in the photo above that the HS4 in cross section has very thin sides. Didn't find any HS3's (Amazon).

I think the HS-4 may be better actually. The thin sides make it easier to attach.

Just in case someone is wondering, I am not sure these are readily available anymore, I have contacted the manufacturer to see if I can wholesale some if we want to do a group buy for the forum members. Tim

Did a search on Amazon for 'axe handle saver hs' and got this:

This is another one that doesn't have HS number but appears to be HS-4 from reviews. (Also part number)

                Are these the same products?

Yep, and the company that made them was sold to someone else and I am not sure if they are making them now with the advent of synthetic handles. If they are old stock, the rubber gets hard and brittle, that is why I am looking into it.

I had a hard time finding any, finally did about a year ago. Ace hardware used to stock them, not anymore.
                    Cheers,
