  • Happy Day

My Grandson turned 16 today. He also went flying for the first
time without his grandpa (me). I wish it would have been
in the Taylorcraft but it wasn't meant to be. Hopefully it will be airworthy
(from a legal standpoint) soon. He Soloed in a Cessna 150. On his first landing one of my instructor friends was waiting to take off and he commented that it was a good job (it was) . Another pilot took off (an IFR student of mine) and she commendted that his takeoff was very good. We did a lot of landings before his surprise birthday party at the
Hangar. When the party was over he asked me to go around once before
he Soloed. We have one year and hopefully a lot of trips to make. Perhaps one of us in the Taylorcraft and the other in the 150 and sometimes together. I do believe he put together the three best first Solo Landings I have ever seen. I will sleep good tonight.

That is wonderful, I have three grandkids coming along to do that some day. At the Barber Airport , I soloed on my 16th birthday and then my Daughter Mary did the same on her 16th, Wow what a day!

Congratulations on the solo!! That's a day I'm sure none of us will ever forget! I soloed on my 16th in my uncles Champ and I still remember every detail.

Congradulations! I wish I had family that supported my aviation addiction when I was that age! Tim

          Re: Happy Day

Congratulations on this happy day. My first flight [as a copilot] was with my father at the age of three (yes 3 years old!! ) in a DC-3..he remembers it I dont. Flying runs in the blood, once you get it you can'y get rid of it.
Enjoy happy flyings with your grandson...
