  • Prewar Wing Rebuild

I am looking for approximate cost of having both my prewar wings rebuilt up to precover stage. I am not finding the time in my schedule and forsee no letup in the near future. Can anyone in the group suggest a talented individual that I can call and talk with? Has anyone recently gone thru this on a Prewar Taylorcraft? I wont get into details here but this was an airworthy/flying aircraft before I stripped the fabric. I have rounded up some replacement ribs and the spars look great. Leading edges will need replacement. I will rebuild the Ailerons as I have already started on them. One 15 rib and one 13.......I want the 15 rebuilt as a 13 rib.

Looking for any and all suggestions.

    Re: Prewar Wing Rebuild

Mike: I just finished having my '40, BC-65 have a total rebuild. My mechanic,IA, A & P, has a shop at the Iowa City Airport. I just talked with him and he would very much be interested in talking with you. He used to have '39, BF-50, with N numbers about 40 from yours. Anyway Keith has a lot of experience in/with Taylorcrafts as well as loads of tube/fabric/metal work and is now working on building his third homebuilt.

His name is Keith Roof, Iowa City Aircraft Repair

Dont waste your time trying to keep it original, I spent $5k on trying to keep my 41 wings original and I wound up getting ribs from Alaska to New York state. 2 new spars, new leading and trailing edges 2 wing tanks...and when it was all said and finished, I should have done the harer stc for the gross weight increase and not been so worried about the ribs. Mine is a flyer so its no beauty queen, I flew for the last 2 summers 150 hours each year in a 4 month timeframe.... I also gained about 100 lbs from somewhere....the ounces sure added up...TIm
