    Re: taylorcraft owner club existing????

I love this group and this forum, I personally have felt as a group you were too soft on the Factory and now I feel you are being easily awed by the NEW TOC newsletter.

Yes it looks professional and has been pre-punched to fit in a three ring binder, you will now pay $35.00 to receive this 12 page publication four times a year. Would you pay 9 dollars for a 12 page magazine off the magazine rack? Not to mention the 12 pages you are paying for include commercial advertisements taking up space in those 12 pages and a full page ad for a raffle drawing for the Cub Club.

Now I realize this is the first issue so I will not be critical of the content except the Events column, you would think with a little Taylorcraft knowledge or investigation the Taylorcraft fly-in at Barber field would be included but it is not.

I personally will not pay this amount of money for generic news that can be obtained free or at a reasonable amount elsewhere, especially to support a commercial venture.

Forrest, I would be more than happy to place your “Taylorcrafter” newsletters onto CD’s for free.

Thank you Ron I believe I addressed this on another thread. Bob, Rob & the Foundation Board will decide real soon.
As you can see the web site is now Foundation oriented, the newsletters will go there too!! and the CD is a great idea!
Please e-mail me direct so we can catch up on other stuff to do for your project(s). As too the Fly-In at Alliance for 2008 ; that may not happen.
WE did it for 35 years and I am tired. This was all announced at the Fly-In last year and at Air Venture. I posted it too!! Bob has left it open on the web site , I am preparing the Barber Airport activities right NOW! IF any members want this to happen in 2008 , let me know [email protected] . All activities have to be planned at least four months in advance.
IF there is a ground swell of any body who wishes to carry on the tradition , go for it, I will still mow the grass just like I did for the Taylorcraft Owners Club for 35 years...

            Re: taylorcraft owner club existing????

Oh boy, did this one get lively. Well all good. I believe the truth comes to the light of day as always.

This site has been FOR FREE provided to us and its great that the owners and admirers of the Tcraft name alike come together and not always but by and large come through time and again with the info THAT SUPPORTS THE PLANE.

If some foundation $$ goes to support this site then it SHOULD be mandated I would think for everyone to join. News letters have been and are a treat. However ,with technology and the speed at which information is disceminated we are rapidly now leaving items like newsletters behind IMHO.
Major newspapers accross the country are fighting this battle every day as society changes hands.............

Forrest me lad my 15 bucs for renewal in the foundation is heading north with a ray of sunshine from the south.

I would like to encourage all of us to stick together and support the Foundation which really is simply all of us together. Strength in numbers. I like the come one come all approach that Forrest is and always has sounded . Also think it should be come to the Foundation (HERE) first for any one interested in making a buck from the name. After all WE are the prospects or customer for ANYTHING TAYLORCRAFT.

No Foundation money goes to support this site. And none has been requested.

It costs me about $500 a year out of pocket for software & support, with the hosting and network bandwidth donated by a friend thats worth another $2,400.

I would feel less of a sucker if more of you would join the Foundation and pay the $15 a year.

That tiny amount of money goes towards office supplies, postage, phone bill, archival and storage materials. Maybe a milk bone or two. Board members get no pay, and buy their own lunch...

Do your share to make this work, don't be a slacker.
Its not cool to let someone else pay your way when you are able to.

                  Good point Bob,

Up till last year I had been using the forum and was carelessly unaware that it was seperate from TOC and was supported by the Foundation alone.

I did join ASAP when I gained that understanding.

I suspect that many others are equally unaware.

The $15 a year is quite a hardship for a poor airplane owner. However I pay $1.61 each workday for a cup of coffee on the way to work. So now I just defray the cost of Foundation membership by skipping coffee one day a month except for during the celebratory holiday months of Nov. and Dec.

Bob, simply tell people that they have two options as far as keeping this forum up and running:

                    1. Pay $15 a year to the Foundation
                    2. Pay an amount equal to HALF the dollar value of whatever advice, knowledge, and/or technical support they get from this website.

Pay whichever is the lesser amount !

You should have quite a few $15 checks come in

Heck, the Great L. Cheapo (that's me) will even send in a check.

Carelessly unaware hmmm . Perhaps we did not stress that the Taylorcraft Foundation was set up by Bob Ollerton, Forrest Barber, Doug Combs and Bruce Bixler to drag a lot of folks kicking and screaming into the age of the Internet.
Last year at the 35th Annual Fly-In we combined with the Aeronca folks to get enough help to bring this off. I made it quite clear then and at Air Venture that it would be the last one.
I just erased a full page of explanation thanking Bruce & his family for their hard work over the years. His family & my family put their heart and soul into this time of year. Too mushy to share at the moment.

Times change, bodies grow weary, folks die.

Last year we pulled it off due to EAA Chapter #82, Bruce, myself, our families, Brian & his family, Chuck & Connie Baughman, Dave & Judy Whitaker and Lou Whitaker. Duke Iden & the Old-Timer's . AND the folks that showed up . I have had e-mails and phone calls, two said they were coming anyhow just to camp under the wing that week-end. WOW!

Sooooo , it is done I have talked with the support gang around here and we are doing it; slight change in dates ( probably for the good)

The 36th Annual Taylorcraft Fly-In & Reunuion will be Fri., Sat. Sun. July 11th,12th & 13th, 2008. The Taylorcraft Foundation, Barber Aircraft & EAA #82 will host the fly-in and invite the Aeronca folks to join us; heck any Grassroots type ships are welcome. More as we plan it out. YES, I will try to delegate some tasks and mow the place... I know that Steve & Sharon Krog will support the idea and we can continue the education of Joel Gehring about Taylorcrafts. I will start a new thread soon. A few things have to be worked out.
