    Re: Bungee Life

I have had 2 9090s on each side of my 41 for about 7 1/2 years now and the plane still sits about like it did when I put them on and doesn't sag at all. I am wanting to replace them because of age.I have lots of landings on those cords too.I can't see anything wrong with them and am concerened if the new rubber will hold up as well after reading the post. I don't want to change the stiffness by adding another cord-I like the way it is now.
    Any Ideas?

[QUOTE=Forrest Barber;36933]Hmmmm seems Bill is one inch too long!! perhaps a genetic thing

Guess thats better than an inch to short-I couldn't resist it either

Bill, the 9090's(just 2 on each side) have worked really well on my 41. Forrest is checking on a bulk order and may need more to chip in.

Well Forrest, I was adopted so I guess I got the sense of humor instead.... and the smart ass gene

I was also apparently stupid enough to buy BC-12D sized bungees instead of BC-65 bungees. And I thought it was all that pizza I eat.

If you are ordering 9090 bungees any time in the near future then yes I will chip in for four of them.

If this will not be happening soon then I will have to find them somewhere else. Can bungee CORD be (legally) joined into a LOOP using some sort of Nicopress type clamp, or a splice, or a knot, or some other method?

I knew that back in the recesses of my (mind?? ) No chip in necessary they had the first price break at 50 cords, I will call. Taylor-Thomas was the other guys and they went to bad rubber a long time ago.
YOU need 9090's to be "legal" ; if that is a term known to the FAA. They really do not know, the only investigation happens right after the accident. You must "conform to Type Certificate ".
Rumor has it that if the 9090's are in palce , THEN a person could wrap more bungee cord perhaps even lighter more times around the system , pulling it very tightly and secure it with "hog rings" . they are used for installing seat covers and casterations. Your choice.

We use the hog rings in there nose to keep them from ruting in the ground. Never heard of using them to castrate.

I agree, castrations on animals are done with very strong little rubber O-rings. Hey, maybe minature bungees! I don't doubt however that a hog ring crimped in certain places would forever cease the reproductive capability of certain critters...

Sorry gents, Forrest is right. I still have my hog ring pliers from our depression farm days (1930,s for you young whippersnappers). We also used them to put slip covers on our Essex, Star, Hupmobile, and Studebaker.
Don't let'em pimp you Forrest, you are dead on.

                          Re: Bungee Life

I witnessed my first (and only) casteration done on a sheep by the mouth.
made me wonder even at a young 16 yrs old why the teacher did not mount a pair of dentures to some pliers! seemed like a much more sanitary idea to me.
What is a slip cover? A boat slip?

Ah Mountain Oysters, my Uncle Don used to do that too!
To me the hog ring is very useful for lots of things, got them here and old pliers too!
I think the nose ring was a bit bigger, I remember them back in Pa. on the farm. thanks for the back up!! Another way was a twitch in the nose, lean them up against the wall and snip away. ( horses).

You guys are making me walk with my knees together and it looks really silly!
I can verify that in Kansas and Nebraska at least, the little rubber bands were used. They just shriveled up and fell off (not the rubber bands dummy, the hangie downers). The cheap farmers were the ones who went out and collected the bands for re-use. If a used one broke when you were putting it on and snapped your hand it really hurt! If it snapped the bull you better RUN!
