  • Tapered U channel

Does anyone know where I can get the tapered U channel used as ribs in the Rudder? I have one that needs repair.
I have found lots of U channel, but none tapered.

And for that matter, the U channel in the Fin that has a beveled edge?

    Thanks,

Those ribs were formed from sheet metal at the factory. Bend the edge first and then make the bends to form the channel.

Go to harber freight and buy a small metal brake for $40 or $50, bend your own, the brake will come in handy many times. George

        Thanks guys.

I have a break, but was hoping not to have to make them, too many other things to fabricate!

          [Technically it's a C-section. C has square corners; U is U-shaped. Similarly, V is.......well, it's V-shaped.]

Go to Google and search Dahlstrom. They manufacture this stuff (and I think did back then when our beloved aeroplanes were built).

Tell them you want a 12" length; you will see that their minimum quantity is 5 miles of the stuff.

Oh well, back to making our own, eh?
