    Re: First flight!

Congratulations Winston. I know the feeling having just completed the first flight after my five year rebuild.

Have to jump in guys, I come it at 26, and my dad and I are rebuilding N43754, which my dad purchased in 1979, two years before I was born. She was taken apart when I was 9, and is now in my garage. Spent alot of my childhood at good old Barber field hanging around Taylorcrafts at the reunion and other flyins...

Len, I learned to fly in our Pa22/20 Pacer, but I had trouble finding someone to give me check ride in the taildragger, most couldn't believe that is what I learned in!

I took my check ride in a 1948 Cessna 170 with Al Passel at Sporty's. He told me if I ground looped him then I would probably fail.LOL

                        Re: First flight!

I think I have to chime in here, I’m 32 and when I got “Anna” (BC12-D) in 1999, I was only 24. It took all the money I had and a loan from my folks to come up with the $10,500 to buy her. I had about 20 hours in rented 172’s and I was so happy to get to love and take care of a beautiful plane such as her. she had been owned by five others before who had added a lot of paint and oil over the years. After about a year and a half of flying her it was time to wash her face. I rebuilt her motor with the best parts I could find. I striped the paint fabric forward and replaced her struts. All and all, it took us almost 4 years. Now she has her own hanger and gets flown regularly. I have taken her out for some 800 mile trips and my dream is to take her down south to brazil (lots of open land and fun pilots).

I believe I will be flying her my whole life. I have a commitment to her like no other.

By the way, at every small town airport you land there will be a guy over 70 who will tell you how he escaped death in a Taylorcraft and what a good plane you have.

                        Keep smiling,

                        Jonathan

I have socks older than most of you! NEVER thought I would say that to anybody. Oh well now I have to look foreward to rolling around the airport in my wheel chair, with a big warm lap robe, pixxing myself every15 mins. Born 11-10-42 , solo 11-10-58, most time off without flight was 12 days when I broke my right leg...... bye off to pick up my 89 yr old Aunt Virginia, she was not happy that I could not get her on the Goldwing.

                            Forrest,
My Dad was born in 1921 started flying in the 30's as an instructor-went into the war training program and is still flying at 86. He had a 41 T/craft Deluxe the same color as mine in 1941 and loves to fly mine(and is very good at it. So I bet you have a very long way to go yet.
                            HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

It's a different project but some of the parts came from you guys. Mostly the rare hard to find stuff.
