    Re: BC12D Shock Cords

    Forrest,
If you plan to order another batch of shock cords I could use 4-9090's for my 41 and 6-9010HDX's for an F19.

        Forrest,

If you would like to, I need a complete set for the BL-65. Buell said 9090. Let me know.

        Thanks,

          Re: BC12D Shock Cords

To resurrect an old thread, I have a question. My '41 BC12-65 is a Harer converted airplane and has a gross weight of 1,500 lbs. Which cord should I use? Is it possible to correct a sagging gear by adding a third? Is it proper?

I noticed that the prewar used the 9 inch ring and the post war the 10 inch ring. Does it matter? What would you guys do?

I need to order the cords Monday so a prompt reply is greatly appreciated.

            Re: BC12D Shock Cords

I added a third cord, probably a good alternative for you too.

Using F19 cords would work too I bet, look up the cord type for F19 at some vendor site. If the loop size is 10 it will fit. If its a 1010 cord though all you are gaining is a 5/8" (1010) cord compared to 9/16" on a 9010 and it may be lot more $$ for a 20% more stiffness.

That's my current free advice. Clearly worth twice what you paid!

            Dave

p.s. The 5/8" cord has a cross section area of .30 sq. in. and the 9/16 has an area of .248, about 20% more stiffness

              Re: BC12D Shock Cords

Here's what I have gleaned so far from reading various threads on this.

It appears that the pre war Taylorcrafts require the use of a 9 inch cord and the post war ones require a 10 inch cord. Same for the Model 19's? I think so.

What I am going to do is get 4 new prewar bands and put them on. Then I am going to put one of my old bands on each side as a third band.

              Anything obviously wrong with that?

              Thanks for the help, guys.

I have sold the airplane and this is one of the items I have to address for the new owner.

What is the difference between the 9090s you can get from Wag Aero and the ones you can get from Spruce that warrant a 12 dollar difference?

                    Re: BC12D Shock Cords

Maybe we should all coordinate and change our cords at the same time. Buy in bulk and tell the manufacturer what we are doing so they will make us a batch run every "XX" years.
Sure would result in a BUNCH of install tools being sold.
We could line planes up at regional fly-ins and do a bunch one right after another. Great excuse to get together and buying in bulk could bring the prioce down enough to do it every year.
