  • used struts

I can't recall exactly who was saying it but a week or so ago someone was saying keep your old t-craft struts because they can be used on home builts.

Well I did. I have one used set of t-craft struts and a pile of other struts too.

If there is still interest let me know and I can mesure struts off the pile as well. They seem to be mostly Piper and Aeronca as I recall.

I live in Poughkeepsie, NY and every 10 weeks or so I make a trip to Raliegh,NC with a 16' utility trailer so I could take struts with me on that route and possible meet up.

Take $200 off the purchase of your new struts by not buying that Swedish roof rack!

These old struts are once again very happy to be splitting the wind @ 65 MPH.

Nice.....but let's try to use the rusty ones that won't pass for this type of conversion.....I do have 2 complete sets of rusty struts(just the lower 2 or 3 inches) that would be great for such a conversion. If anyone wants them just pay the shipping.

        Re: used struts

I'm in the Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Virginia area which should be pretty close to your route. I am pretty sure the un-rusted struts will be good to use on Taylorcrafts again some day in the future and wouldn't THINK of cutting a good one up. The antique purists in the group will want to go back to them some day in the future (I still have my original small cross section struts on my 41). I WOULD want to store old struts in a nice dry environment until that time. I have six or seven old struts stored now but most of them I got because someone had bent them and then put big old sleeve patches on them. Those (and any rusted struts) I would eventually cut the end fittings out of and use any good streamline tube for homebuilts. The end fittings I plan to save till I can weld in new tubes for "owner manufactured" replacement struts. I want to make them "sealed" too, but need to make sure the design is accepted as an owner manufactured sealed strut with no further inspections.
I have the storage space and don't make any money on parts; I'm just a pack rat and end up fixing stuff as I can or passing them to whoever needs them (I don't LOOSE money, but I don't make any either).
Let me know what you need to coordinate. My wife is out of town till Thursday this week which makes getting them in the barn un-seen easier.

          Kevin,
If you need some they can reside in the barn till you get down to the beach again.

            Re: used struts

the Pietenpol Aircamper builders are the ones that will be eating up these struts that didn't pass.

Piet struts are relatively short and the lower ends of Tcraft struts can be cut and welded to make a good Piet strut.
