  • Alaska Airframes

I stopped by Alaska airframes today. I was talking to Lee about his lift stuts.
I told him that there was some people that thought maybe the factory struts may be stronger. He showed me a test on the rear strut material. he had a pice that was about 5 feet long it was on a stand about a foot off the floor and held by the very ends. Lee told me he waghs about 240 lbs. He jumped up and down on the middle of the strut about 10 times. We looked at the strut after it was as streaght as a arrow.
I asked him to write down what the struts were made of so he did This is what he wrote and i quote.
Rear strut matl is .049 4130 cromoly UNBREAKABLE
Front Strut Matl is the same that we build supercub front struts out of -600D
for a gross wt of #2000 on cubs end quote.
what the 600D is i am not shure but the struts are a little bit bigger and he supplys all of the clamps.
Lee also said that he is going to update his web site hopefully this week.

I talked to them today and found out that the struts I ordered three weeks ago were still a week out and they have already sold like 40 sets and I was number 41 or 42. I ask who is buying all the struts and he said mostly lower 48 people. I 've bought a number of their cub struts and have been real happy with them. I was surprised they had so many orders already.

            Re: Alaska Airframes

Well, I got my Airframes, Inc. postcard today..."we are producing and can supply new sealed lift struts..." "...they are priced at $450 each...$1800 per set"

These guys seem like winners to me. Best price, timely delivery, and they send me a card offering the product. I gotta say, I'm impressed.

Same here, waiting to see what time frame the NDT will be, but believe I will be ordering a set from Alaska Airframes soon. (Within a week or two)
I wish Univair could sell there a little cheaper. I'm retired and on a fixed income. That's why I'm flying this T-craft, and not a 182.

From an e-mail from Lee Budde last Friday to the Foundation:

                posted on two other threads:

                Hi Forrest,

I just recieved the STC from the FAA. We are in full swing production and will have 20 sets completed monday with more built every following day. Thanks for your help and guidance. I'm glad we can give the T-craft guys a less expensive option. Some details; shipping is considerably cheaper if two or more orders can be shipped together. They will be supplied in "boeing primer". Folks can order from us by calling us at 907-892-8244. We take credit cards, I will fax you a copy of the STC on monday if you like.

                Thanks again,

                      Re: Alaska Airframes

Robbie, I do this all the time with cub and T-craft struts, I measure center to center of the bolt holes on the old ones, and do the same with the new ones, get an exact measurement and you can't go wrong. The good thing is on a T-craft, you only do the rear ones. This only works if the plane in the rig in the first place. I assume your's is.

                        Re: Alaska Airframes

I just went out there today and airframes is building struts like crazy, looks like his main focus in T-craft struts, right now. They look real good, I picked up a set for a customer. Good price. They come with instructions and a S.T.C

OK so some dummy has to ask
Is Alaska airframes and Airfranes Inc. one and the same?
Carl Called and they said no to combined shippping and Forrest says he got a call from Lee and Lee said to combine shipping. They change their policy ? Is this Lee one and the same?
Im all for saving a $100 bucks if at all possible. of course their probably is no one close to me to combine shipping with anyway. Seems there was a T in Salem though.

A group of us in Maine just received a combined shipment of five sets from Airframes. Shipping cost per set still came to about $215 for each set with the crating charge.
