Hey Dave, I own tcraft 44056. I live on the 7B3 airfield. Hampton, NH. I have only flown it since jun of this year. I either will keep it and put it on floats in the summer or sell it to help pay off my hangar.. I hope you enjoy your bird...They are so much fun to fly....Tom aka TcraftTom

Now that the factory says as of November 21 on their website that they are finally starting to ship,,,,,, has anyone got a call, email, any word as to whether are not their struts have been shipped?

I have been being told for the last two weeks that mine were being shipped "next Wednesday or Thursday" and then "next Monday" but would get a phone call and or email to confirm. No call, email yet.

        Tim:

Same for me, no joy? got the email on Thanksgiving Day, kinda lightened me up, but ?? that was 4 days ago, and if in fact what the email said was true? where are the parts, so far I've not heard of anyone that has received a shipment or even a call. I've been trying all morning today 11/28/07 to get intouch, no one answereing the phone, now? you know
I didn't ride to town on a load of wool, last night, and at age 62, I've seen alot, and have never seen a viable business that was trying to "stay in business" that wouldn't answer the phone. How could they continue to take orders, and do business with no response? It would be interesting to be a little mouse and take a look down there at what the real story is. Probably scare the ""/?"" out of ya, what really miffs me is the the FAA isn't looking either, in fact maybe looking the other way? Well that will also be looked into if this situation doesn't correct itself soon. There are those now that are worried that this Gear Assembly notification that might take focus in Dec could be a gear up for parts to respond to another emergency AD ON THE GEAR?? , if this occurs I would be very suspicious of the origins. This strut deal stinks bad enough but that would really be interesting, what I'm concerned about is the demise of the T-Carts reputation and value at the hands of slop shod scrutiny by those in power.

          Tim

I'm taking my struts off and going to Tulsa with them, to Tailwinds Insp, Inc
they will do them while I wait, takes about an hour, I feel they will pass with no problem. Then if all goes well, they will go back on, I'm still hopeing for a shipment of my "prepaid" parts, must tell ya, 1st time I've ever experienced any remotely like this, from one end to the other, just not a good deal.

Sooo sad too, as we need that factory, up and going, I would be the 1st to support it, and I know others would to, but heck you have to be honest
reliable, and turn out the product. This particular deal is fallling into line with all the other past glitches that have come out of the place. Very sad for the Crafters

I canceled my order with the factory and also my credit card number,,,,That place must be in deep financial trouble again...I placed an order with Univair. It is really sad, it would be nice to have reliable factory support.

Since the factory that came up with the strut SB/AD has most T/crafts grounded now May be we have a better case for an extension if enough people sent an e-mail or called Mr. McAnaul.

I don't have his e-mail add but will try to find it. The phone no. is 210-308-3365. I tried for an extension and Forrest did too but that was before the deadline expired. I was thinking that the way it has worked out we might be able to at least have enough time to recieve new struts or have them tested.I think the strut supplyers are doing what they can to help but are either swamped with orders or waiting on the AMOC and some people are having trouble finding a place close to them to take for testing. Another 3 months would probably be reasonable after all the years T/crafts have flown without any strut failures. Just an idea.

Ok, we need to give a call, to MIDO and ask for this, also it must be in the form of a written request, as I'm aware, so we will need to get all of the crafters to do that at the same time.

All crafters reading this thread needs to identify, and then we will get this info to you emails would be nice, either way, you can notify Buell or myself
at [email protected]. If we stick together on this we might get an extension on the final compliance, meanwhile anyone getting a shipment from factory, needs to communicate it to us, as this is a becoming somewhat a critical issue, at least for me that is.

The e-mail address for Andrew McAnaul is [email protected]. I just think an e-mail asking for an extension wouldn't hurt. I feel bad for the ones that have lost money with the factory -especially those that gave thier money in good faith only to end up picking up there planes in pieces (some missing) but I don't think the FAA can do anything about that.

                      • Re: Anyone received their new factory struts yet?

Just wondering if anyone else is interested in an extension to the strut AD and has sent an e-mail requesting it? I think there is justification and if enough did we may be able to get it done.
The reasons that I gave are
The factory has not been able to ship any struts to date and are excessively expensive
The other supplyers are either swamped or waiting for the AMOC or additions to include the pre-war models and F series
No Taylorcraft lift struts have ever failed in apx. 70 years and an extension would not present an immediate danger
The SB was issued for profit rather than safety
Some are having trouble finding places close to them to have struts tested.
The most practical way to comply with the Service Bulletin on the fitting is while the struts are off and are working on locating a bore scope without having to buy one for a 1 time use.
May be it's to late and most have already taken care of the AD and SB by now but some of us are still trying to get everything taken care of so we can fly again but I thought it would not hurt to at least try.

I email Mcanaul yesterday stating exactly the same points you make. That should reinforce it some, getting the same thing from two sources.
My guess is that most owners out there don't have the problem fixed yet.

That away to go guys, numbers count, and facts count, hopefully we can get there attention. I am asking that they consider revolking the AD, I realize that is probably a long shot, but?? based on the facts, it looks to me like this AD was written before real through data was in hand, not to mention that there had not been nor has been since a inflight separation of a strut that lead to a crash or fatility. The Wiley accident was totally after this AD, and the problem wasn't the Strut, What I would like to see are structural test and data on the actual strength of some of the recently rejected struts vs new?? that would be helpful, something other than Harrys testimony with a set of rusted parts that came from who knows were?
