  • A-65 tapered prop hub / crank torque value

Despite my best intentions, I can't find the torque value to tighten up the tapered hub on to the tapered crank. I know it's a BIG torque, but where do I find this (and I think I have all the manuals, I must just be missing it).

    Thanks,
    Rob

There is an Aeronca service letter that tells how to do it. Its not a quantified torque as I recall. Will look for the letter.

Its Champion Service helps and hints #14. It contradicts the website above. the service helps and hints #14 (NOT service letter #14) says basically run the nut up by han and when it gets tight put in a bar no longer than 18" and apply force on teh ned of the bar an apply no more force than can conveniently be applied by one man.

Also says do not hammer and it is expect that the bar will result in an additional 90 degree of turn on the nut past what you can tighten it by hand.

Goes on to say that it is not necessary to have this nut exceedingly tight as the taper elimanyes that necessity.

Written by the Aeronca engineering department in 1961. If I get a scanner will scan it. I suspect that this is approved data, at the very least it is factory data. Of course it is the wrong factory!
