Could I ask what they charged you to x-ray your struts.
Looking for someone cheeper than $500-$600 here in Wi.

I had mine done at Quality Testing Services, Inc. in St. Louis. They charge $150 for xrays and I was very pleased with their service, they also do ultrsound tests.

I batched my struts with Mark Julicher and 2 others (4 sets) and we were charged $1K for the batch ($250 ea) by All American. 9 out of 16 failed - the rear struts were the worst (as was to be expected). Mark and I have orders in to Alaska for new struts, and we will know about the two others today as a batch order will save on shipping and crating. The lead time is about 4 weeks. Doc

I have found a source in colorado here to have the struts tested and certified . They will ultra sound them , it is www.ndeservices.com , they are in Denver. We have 3 tcrafts here needing inspections. They will come onsite to do the inspections.

Mark Julicher took a set of F19 struts with Doc's for me. They all passed and showed no cracks or corrosion.

Just got off the phone from talking to Emery Air in Rockford. They are going to be testing struts in the next week or so. I was told they will be doing the tests on a per hour basis, a lot more reasonable than any one else in the area. The phone number there 815-987-4107, ask for Jason. I will be taking my struts there as soon as they give me the go ahead. Will post results and prices soon as I get them. They are an authorized testing facility. The local FBO sends everything there and has been very pleased with there work and prices. Call for a quote and time schedule. George

Are they still just doing Eddy Current testing? IIRC, that only gets you two years between inspections. I pretty much ruled them out because of that.

I believe that is correct. It is close for me, my struts are off. If they test ok I can xray next time, if they are bad I don't have $300 or more invested to find out they are bad. Some of the price quotes I have gotten from xray test shops were a good down payment for new struts. Just my opinion. George

You might find that Xray is cheaper than Ultrasound, because of the fewer hours labour required. (I know you were talking about Eddy Current...but I thought that was no longer allowed? Standing to be corrected.)

where did you take your struts?
I have mine ready for testing but I do not know where to take them. The A&P is looking. I have also contacted our EAA Chapter 186 and others around here.
The price is right...about $ 50 more than others have posted but...is what it is.

I took my struts (and Doc's and Buell's) to All American Inspection here in San Antonio, Texas. If you are nearby It is a good place to go, but I believe you are in Virginia?? I don't know what to say about Virginia, although there were a couple Maryland guys looking for an inspection.

I hope that helps some. There are always non-destructive inspection shops near major metropolitan airports, but not so many away from bigger cities.
