    Forrest - you probably know this but watch the upper end of that tube; it's not a simple weld; there is some kind of gusset that goes through the wall of the tube - Mike

      That is correct. As noted in the past, the repair is to cut the tube up near the top on the diagonal, use an inside splice , slide it all together and place the bolt in the bottom...... THAT was the reason for the bolt plus slight bending moment down there.

        Thank you sir! Have you found a source for the 1.5"x.645" streamline tubing?
        I'm not sure its still available. Since it may not be, do you see any problem using your method and the next size up streamlined tubing (1.7x.718)? There is precedence; we see it when we step down longeron diameter - Mike
