  • Does BC12D engine & mount bolt on prewars

Think I know the answer, but before I start spending $. Will the BC12D 65 continental w/ mount bolt up to a prewar fuselage? Think it's ok but want to hear from someone who's done it. Thanks Howard

As long as it is a prewar "B" model. It won;t fit an "A" model.

Hey Howard... off topic, but just noticed your s/n is 15 newer than my father-in-law's BC65 (formerly BF) N22207 (s/n 1145). Here's a photo. Great airplane - lighter and faster than my BC12D.

                Eric,
We are in TX. But we are leaving tomorrow morning in the '39 to fly up to Blakesburg IA for the National AAA flyin. Lord willing we'll be there. You should come on down.

Hi Terry, Yup I really like flying the old ones. I've seen that picture of your dad's plane somewhere before, or one very similar, it's one of my favorites. Data plate says 5 January '39. I've been getting 81 mph at 2300 rpm. What kind of cruise is he getting? Howard

                    Howard,
Just returned from Blakesburg IA antique fly-in. So I have recent first hand info on cruise speed. We have Cont A75 with McCauley 7443 prop. We had beautiful light/variable winds so good airspeed checks. Should have done reciprocal headings to get a good average but did not. Here's what I saw.

RPM - Indicated Air Speed - GPS Ground Speed
                    2100 82 mph 85 mph
                    2150 88 mph 90 mph
                    2200 95 mph 98 mph

Thanks for the numbers Terry. That's 17 mph faster than I cruised at 2300 rpm! Did you check fuel burn? What rpm does it seem to like the best? Howard
