Tail Brace Wires, Questions

Hi guys and gals,
Two questions, any tricks or suggestions on how to replace them, How do the they unscrew, do you have to use a small wrench to get inside the strap fittings?

Can you use stainless steel streamline wires, any STC etc.

There are not any approved sreamlined wires that I know of. To loosen the wires look on the outside of the strap about 3/4" on the wire ends and you will see flats there that you can put a small wrench on. I beleive you can get stainless wires, ask Forrest.

Steen Aero is a distributor for the Brunton wires, they seem to be the strongest (rolled thread so they claim). Tim

Loosen the 5/16 or 11/32 jam nut first.

Also clean the paint away so the threads are unencumbered.

Having a set of "ignition wrenches" helps. Sears will have them. They're just small wrenches.

Or you could make and use a Taylorcraft special tool, the first one does both the tail wires and the wing wires, the second one if the strut barrel tool. These are mine from the factory , very easy to copy.

Forrest, can you or someone else do a drawing with dimentions on these? I would love to copy them as I will have a lot of use for them over the next few years. Between 2 friends and I, (one is an A&P, IA) we have three T-Crafts in the works right now and two more (both 38's) waiting in the wings. LOL Sure wish I had been at the type tent as you guys were discussing the strut AD! Darn :boxing:

I did! it is 9 in long and one end is for the tail nipple the other for the wing nipple , actually I have two tools, that one is the wing tool only. I usually use two wrenches on the tail. For sizes check your nipples 11/32 rings a bell for one . the other tool has a round end that fits down into the strut barrell and a cross piece that inserts into the barrell end. Measure yours and do it! IF I get time I will photo again & add dimensions.
