    Re: Strut Service Bulletin

The new AD 2007-16-14 is now issued effective Aug 20, 2007. The comment period is open till Oct 12th, 2007 . The FAA engineer is the same as the one asking for comments a while back on the SB; NOW this information is on the AD FAA Engineer is Andrew McAnaul, Aerospace Engineer, 210-308-3365 . The AD spells out commenting methods ; ie electoroniclly, ,mail, fax, hand delivery. Just do it!! Yes these are two separate things the struts and the strut attach fitting at the fuselage.
Harry Ingram has requested along with the NTSB investigator that I be used as a consultant on the Wiley accident, more soon , I have to keep running an airport. My system has the fresh AD in a huge PDF file. I am sure other members can post it easier ...... It's a 33kb file, Forrest, that's all (Rob)
WE can start a new thread on AD 2007-16-14 .

      Re: Strut Service Bulletin

Please note: before the SB the struts were A-A815 and A-A854 and what is called out is MA-A815 and MA-A854. I don't believe Univair's UA-A815 & 854 will be the same!

Sonofabitch, just got the re-assembly of 23638 signed off today. Now I've got an intra-annual issue, just like everybody else! At least I only need one side.

I've edited some of these posts to give a direct link to the AD, hope I haven't trodden on anyones toes.

For the avoidance of doubt, the AD is here.

          Full link:

          http://www.airweb.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgAD.nsf/0/de9ac9e836bba6f58625733600582b05/$FILE/2007-16-14.pdf

I wonder how long the UK authorities will take to catch-up? I'll let you know.

            Re: Strut Service Bulletin

God Bless Robert my cyberspace guru right behind Bob of course...
Yes that is the AD, Now Robert can you please start a NEW thread and use that link, title it , Taylorcraft AD 2007-16-14 and we can start all over on comments, make them good ones; YES, YES, I KNOW that who ever drafted the AD included things that do NOT apply ie: FA-III ( Airphibian) ; and the TG-6 conversion. remember the L-2 G,K, F ,J were the side by side ships ( B) models if you will... I have a student to go fly around the patch bye for a moment.

I have seen the pictures of the strut attach tear out on the Wiley ship and it is a corroded, rusty, nasty area, YES for the safety of all , INSPECT. the lower strut attach fittings under the fabric, I will try for permission to post these NTSB photos, they are waiting for the lab to finish before the release.

                Re: Strut Service Bulletin

Those who said eddy current isn't very good at detecting subsurface flaws are correct. Well, unless you're using low freq, but that's not what is called out in the SB. Ultrasonic inspection is far better for both thickness measurement and subsurface flaw detection. Geez, I get back from the desert and find this crap out about our Tcrafts. I think I'll go back and stick my head in the sand
