  • Pulley for brake cables.

I need one pulley for the brake cable. Does anyone have a spare or know where I can get one?

    Thanks in advance.

Peter, can you give the dimensions? I think I probably have one. Dick

      Thanks Dick.

I will measure them when I get home. It's the small all metal pulley above the gear legs.

            Dick and William.

Thanks for your offer. The pulleys measure 1 inch OD dia. I would think they are standard size, the bolts going thru them are AN3 I don't know if there is a bushing inside or not. My plane is all set, but I had to borrow one from someones rebuild and I need to replace it soon. Thats also why I don't know about the bushings, I was just able to measure the OD. Let me know what you have.

            Thanks

            Peter

Yes, they are bushed, with the same type of bronze or sintered bushing as per the control cable pulleys.

                Re: Pulleys for brake cables.

Peter, I have four of the metal brake pulleys, with the pressed-in bronze bushings. One inch O.D....3/4 inch measuring in the groove, 3/8 inch O.D. bushing...bored to take a AN3 bolt. Also have a 5th one, where the bushing isn't a press fit anymore...it turns. I'm sure the bushing could be expanded slightly and the bore re-drilled to AN3. E-mail me and we can get you what you need. Same with "Flybikefarm". Dick

                  Re: Pulley for brake cables.

I had been under the impression that the bushings were a loose fit in the pulley and that the pulley rotated on the clamped tight in the fitting bushing.

Anyone familiar with the actual drawing to say what the design actually was?

                  Dave.

                    Re:Brake Pulley/Bushing Question

Dave, you are correct. The brake cable pulley should have the bronze bushing free to turn in the bore of the pulley. The four that I have that did not turn were freed up with a bit of "PB Blaster" and some tapping with a brass hammer. When I pulled them out of storage, 4 of the 5 pulleys appeared to be a press fit. Thanks for throwing up the flag. The fact that the bushing CAN bind in the pulley bore COULD be a source of friction in the cable system between the heel brake pedals and the brake actuator arms. Something to check for. Dick

Whew! glad that got worked out! Yes the " bushings" on most Taylorcraft pulleys are fixed when tightened up and then the pulley rotates on them. Lubrication is indeed missed.... Dick Smith try calling me again . 330 823-1168 this afternoon then 330 495 5447 ( cell) most of the time.
